Safety Tips
Keep your ATV
quiet - too much noise stresses wildlife and annoys the owners of
property as well as other recreation users. It also contributes
to your very own riding fatigue. With less noise, you can ride a
longer distance more comfortably.
Always obey
trail markers and closure signs. The actual reasons might not be
too obvious. Trails may be closed due to fire hazard, refuge for
wildlife or plant life, also possibly safety hazards to you (the
ATV rider). If you see a trail is posted as "CLOSED",
make sure to stay out.
Always make
sure to leave gates and fences the way you found them - do not close
them up if they're open, as you might be preventing livestock from
getter to water; don't leave gates open if you found them closed,
you might let livestock out.
Be courteous
to others you meet on the trail. Always give the right-of-way to
horseback riders. Don't drive up from behind them, and when they
approach from the opposite direction, pull off the trail and turn
off your engine. The rider will probably talk to their horse and
it doesn't hurt to do the same, this will allow the horse to feel
that you are not a threat.
When talking
to a landowner, take off your helmet. The helmet might make you
appear intimidating and unfriendly. Be honest and friendly in all
your discussions with the property owner -- remember, you are their
guest!
